March 28th 2012 - St. James's Palace Sentry
28th March 2012
For week 13 of the SEUK Photography on the Net 52 project, the topic was uniform. After work I popped down to St. James's Place to grab a shot of a guardsman (in this case of the Coldstream guards) on sentry duty, alas still in winter overcoat, and not the red as worn in the summer months.

25th March 2012
Another day filming CrewsVs (due to begin airing on Showcase 2 and over the Internet on April 1st at 9pm), this time at Santa Pod. Suspending my 7D off a 2 metre jib 20 feet in the air was a nervous experience!

March 13th 2012 - HMS Belfast
13th March 2012
The HMS Belfast is a museum ship permanently moored between London Bridge and Tower Bridge.
During World War 2 it was one of the Royal Navy ships used to battle the Scharnhorst.
After an accident with the gangway last year the museum is currently closed, and is expected to reopen in the coming months.

March 9th 2012 - The Champagne Pool
9th March 2012
The Champagne Pool at the Wai-O-Tapu geothermal park is a hot spring. The name Champagne Pool is derived from the abundance of carbon dioxide in the spring, making it bubble like a glass of champagne.
65 metres in diameter, and 62 metres deep, it's the largest spring in the area, and has a surface temperature of 72 degrees Celsius. The orange colouring round the edge is due to the depositing of arsenic.

7th March 2012
With an estimated 40 million sheep (10 per person living there), they aren't hard to find. These ones live on Kat's parent's farm and I was even lucky to feed them. They are so domesticated they might as well be like pets!

March 6th 2012 - Russell Fig Tree
6th March 2012
Russell was the first permanent European settlement in New Zealand, and once upon a time was known as the "Hell Hole of the Pacific" due to the many brothels and lawlessness in the whaling port. However today it is a beautiful historic town (population 816!!!) and one of New Zealand's most sort after postcodes.
This fig tree was planted in 1870 by the then customs officer. the building next door then became the local police station and is now the local police officers home.

March 5th 2012 - Sunrise Over Matauri Bay
5th March 2012
Matauri Bay is famed for it's beautiful white sand and totally crystal clear water, In the shot the sun rises over the Cavilli islands, the site is also home to the scuttled wreck of Rainbow Warrior I, the Greenpeace vessel that was covertly bombed by the French secret service in 1985 while moored in Auckland harbour.

March 4th 2012 - Te Paki Sands
4th March 2012
The Te Paki sand dunes near Cape Reinga are a sight to behold, 5 km deep and over a hundred metres high, this is possibly the most work I've ever had to do to get one photo, since the sand was at a 50 odd degree slope, 15kgs of camera gear didn't make this a fun climb at all, the view at the top was well worth the climb. Going down was a lot quicker, and bouncing down like Neil Armstrong on the moon was amazing fun!

March 3rd 2012 - Cape Reinga
3rd March 2012
Cape Reinga is the north western most tip of New Zealand, and as far north as is possible to go due to parts of the country being restricted for scientific protection. The name of the cape comes from the Maori word 'Reinga', meaning the 'Underworld' (due to the fact that in Maori mythology the spirits of the dead travel to Cape Reinga on their journey to the afterlife to leap off the headland and climb the roots of the 800 year old tree and descend to the underworld to return to their traditional homeland of Hawaiki). The headland features a prominent lighthouse (now solar powered) and a signpost with distance to locations across the globe (at 18,029 km I'm a long way from home!).

March 2nd 2012 - Whangarei Falls
2nd March 2012
One of New Zealand's most photographed waterfalls is Whangarei Falls, where the Hatea River drops 26 metres. The falls were originally known as Otuihau, and have been a picnic spot since at least the 1890s.
